Hello there!

Welcome to another short news update about the state of organized play! Today we’re going to be going over the announcement for the Sector and Regional Qualifiers announced for season zero. These, like the season zero planetary qualifiers aren’t necessarily going to be the exact model moving forward, but should give you the general shape of these larger events.

There are going to be six of these events in the Jump to Lightspeed wave, two Sector Qualifiers in each of Europe and the United States and one Regional Qualifer.

Europe

April 5-6: Liverpool, England - Sector Qualifier, run by Organized Play Events

March 29-30: Milan, Italy - Sector Qualifier, run by Organized Play Events

May 3-4: Lille, France - Regional Qualifier, run by Fanfinity

United States

April 5-6: Denver, Colorado - Sector Qualifier, run by Star City Games

April 25-27: Richmond, Virginia - Sector Qualifier, run by Star City Games

May 24-25: Minneapolis, Minnesota - Regional Qualifier, run by Star City Games

All three of these organizations have a history running competitive TCG events, and putting on a great show. These events are expected to have hundreds of players registered in the main event, as well as side events with many more players! The team at FFG is working with OPE, Fanfinity, and SCG to create experiences beyond just sitting down for a bunch of swiss rounds of premier.

To that end, these organizers are going to need judges to make the events run smoothly! Each of the organizers will have their own application processes and offer slightly different compensation packages, depending on their location. As these links become public, I’ll update this page with URLs and make sure that they’re posted in the Discord so that you can apply!

Per FFG, these events will require a Judge Apprentice or higher certification to be staffed. You can dive into the lessons and certification exams here and make sure that your account settings are properly adjusted so that the Organizers can identify you here.

Please do not directly message the organizers asking when applications will be available or to express individual interest in working an event. They’ll post publicly available applications, and we’ll be sure to signal boost them when they’re available.

Hey - what’s this ACES group? You’re right! I didn’t mention them before. They’re not going to be running any of the SQs or RQs, instead, they’re staffing many of the large conventions that Asmodee and FFG will have a presence at, particularly in the US. This includes Adepticon, PAX East, GenCon, and most excitingly to many of you here, the Galactic Championships in July. The applications for that event aren’t available yet, but you can join their server to get notifications when they do become available!

Meetups

For those looking for meetups, you may have read that we have four TBA meet-ups - two each in April and May, split across the US and EU.

My current itinerary has me at Sectors Denver and Milan, as well as both Regionals - Lille and Minneapolis. I’m going to be hosting meet-ups the Friday night before the event, somewhere near the venue.

April 4th - Denver, Colorado Meetup

April 18th - Milan, Italy Meetup

May 2nd - Lille, France Meetup

May 23rd - Minneapolis, Minnesota Meetup

As we get closer to these events, we’ll provide additional details about the exact timing and location for them. You can expect them to include a brief talk or presentation of some kind - it may just be me talking about a point of judging philosophy, or we may get a panel of guests to talk about the game in a way that is fruitful for judges. Certified L1 judges who attend these meetups will receive some promos, including the convention exclusive Luke and Vader, as well as a random promo from wave one: Wrecker, Tech, K-2SO, Avenger, Snoke, and Maul.

I’m really excited for these events, and frankly, even more excited to meet many of you in person as continental play really picks up, and folks start traveling further for events!

That’s all for now. Good luck and have fun!
